Tim's Perspective
What does it mean to train? What does it mean to work out? Both terms are used interchangeably within the fitness industry, but both have different attitudes behind them. Your definition could differ from mine, but to work out means to go through the motions and do something for the completion aspect.
TRAINING implies intentional training intended to get stronger, faster, more agile, and more athletic. Ask yourself, DO YOU TRAIN WITH PURPOSE, or do you work out to look cute? To call yourself a gym rat, you must be willing to ENDURE the pain. You have to be willing to sweat out 5-6 shirts a week.
You must be willing to have a SPECIFIC eating regimen, no matter how unbearable the cravings are. But most of all, you must be willing to ACCEPT the delayed gratification. Building muscle, body, weight loss; ANY fitness FASHION requires struggle, grit, and endurance. More than just physical resilience, but MENTAL.
Are you a master of your mind, or does your mind control you? So ask yourself: Am I training, or am I working out?
Jah's Perspective
Do you train, or do you work out? From my point of view, anyone can do both, regardless of athletic or not. For example, people who are not athletes can also be training to get a specific body composition, train to look and even feel better. On the other hand, an athlete can be extremely talented and only work out. A great example of this would be Allen Iverson's "Practice?" He stated in a press interview that he was so talented that he believed he only needed to work out. IF that.
I understand the concept, particularly from the psychological perspective of the individual. However, both working out and training are synonymous; it depends on the person whether they are training to get more fit or for a particular sport or event.
