The Discipline Detox: My Journey from Addiction to Alignment

Sobriety, structure, and soul, because discipline is the real flex.

I battled alcoholism, cannabis addiction, and nicotine addiction all at once. I know what it feels like to be defeated, lost, and surrounded by opportunities with no sense of direction. What started as a casual habit quickly became a necessity that consumed me, my business, my creativity, and my opportunities. I was running from stress, failure, and the fear that I might never become anything, even though the potential was always there.
But that all changed.
Something shifted after a public speaking event with Out the Mud Entertainment, where my brother and I spoke to elementary school kids. A few of them came up afterward and told me, “You inspired me.”
That hit different.
As an author, a writer, a painter, and a young Black man with extraordinary skill but a self-defeating habit, those words felt like a mirror. It made me reflect, rewire, and plan a real exit strategy to let the drugs go. Joining O.T.M. gave me no choice but to get right with myself, my health, and my future to be the light others need. If I didn’t, the drugs would take over. And I’ve seen how that story ends too many times. Too many Black artists lost to addiction and overdose.
Not me. Not this time. Now I am entirely drug-free and with June being my birth month and Men’s mental health month I have create a guide for entrepreneurs, creatives, and business professionals entitled Recovery, Discipline & Data: A Wellness Guide For Entrepreneurs where I go in depth on my drug use, the steps to overcoming addiction, how O.T.M came up with a gameplan to help every member deter from any form of addiction making health the priority, and how I am upholding that standard and assisting others to do the same.
This is my perspective and testimony of brotherhood, commitment, and consistency! A Muddy Perspective.
